Our Trust & Support program, robust insurance coverages, and hiring tools connect you with qualified workers while safeguarding your shifts with comprehensive insurance, background checks, and additional verifications.
Insurance
GigSmart for Business goes beyond staffing—we help protect your business too. From worker injury coverage to general liability protection, our insurance options are designed to give you peace of mind when hiring temporary staff. Whether it’s occupational accident coverage, general liability, or auto insurance for delivery shifts, you’ll have the safeguards you need to keep your business moving confidently.
Occupational Accident Insurance (OAI)
GigSmart partners with the On-Demand Independent Contractors Association (ODICA) to offer OAl to eligible Shift workers. Learn more about OAl by clicking here.
General Liability Insurance
General Liability insurance covers your costs when responding to a claim that a Shift worker caused property damage or bodily injury while working your Shift.
General Liability coverage is available to GigSmart workers completing Shifts. Project Gigs and workers who submit applications through the GigSmart Job Board are not covered.
Hired and Non-Owned Automotive Insurance
Have a shift that involves driving or delivery? Our Hired and Non-Owned Auto Insurance protects your business when a Shift worker uses their personal vehicle for your job. This coverage includes liability for damages to other vehicles or property, as well as medical expenses for third-party injuries in the event of an accident.
Background Checks
GigSmart partners with Checkr, a leading provider of national background screenings, to offer Worker Verification.
Workers can opt to become Verified by successfully completing a comprehensive background check or motor vehicle record (MVR) check conducted by Checkr. A Verified status signals to businesses that the worker has met rigorous screening standards, giving you added confidence when selecting talent.
Who qualifies?
- Workers over 18 who have passed a Checkr background check. (Checkr is a trusted third-party used by companies like Uber to process background checks)
How does it work?
- Background checks are optional but are added to your Shift by default to give you the best applicant pool.
- There are no extra fees for sourcing background-checked workers.
- You may remove this Add-On, but doing so means you're sourcing workers without background checks at your own risk.
For more information on background checks, please visit our Verified Shifts information page.
Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)
Checkr performs thorough MVR checks to help you find qualified workers.
Who qualifies?
- Workers over 18 with a valid driver's license who have passed a Checkr MVR check
What does it cover?
- An MVR check reviews a worker's driving history to ensure they meet safety and compliance standards for roles that involve driving.
For more information on MVR checks, please visit our Verified Shifts information page.
Drug Screening
Checkr performs on-site drug screenings to help you find qualified workers.
Who qualifies?
- Workers over 18 who opt in to Verification and pass a Checkr drug screening.
What is tested?
- Our on-site 9-panel screening checks for: Amphetamines, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine (PCP), Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Propoxyphene, Methadone, and Methaqualone (Quaaludes).
How does it work?
-
Add the Drug Screening Add-On to your Shift to require an on-site screening through Check before workers can be scheduled.
-
After a worker accepts your offer (and any required Background or MVR checks are cleared), Checkr emails them to book an appointment. They must schedule ahead of the Shift date and pass the screen to be officially hired.
For more information on Drug Screenings, please visit our Verified Shifts information page.
Worker Ratings
After each Shift, both Workers and Requesters are prompted to leave a rating and review.
GigSmart is not responsible for verifying the accuracy of these reviews before they are posted. Reviews are intended to help Workers and Requesters make better decisions about future Shifts and potential hires.
If you have a question or concern about a review, please contact our Support team.
